Happy Loving Day is June 12th and marks the beginning of a new era for interracial couples!
Mildred and Richard Loving, a mixed race black/Native American female and white male, were a married couple in Virginia, a state in which it was illegal for interracial marriage to exist based on the antimiscegenation laws. After being jailed for unlawful cohabitation, the Lovings moved to Washington D.C.
Traveling back to Virginia, they were once again arrested for traveling together.Frustrated and scared, Mildred sought help in Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and was later referred to the American Civil Liberties Union who went on to help the Lovings change history in the U.S. Supreme Court.
As you spend time with your families this weekend, whether it be for Father’s Day, graduations or family reunions lets devote today, the weekend, the year and the rest of our lives! Share this story with the people you love. Spread the love! Because people have color, love doesnt! ♡
